  • Becoming a new parent is the most exciting, exhausting and at times overwhelming role you will ever take on. Having access to lots of information, keeps you informed, realising there is so much conflicting information, leads to overwhelm.

All our classes are designed to take a step-back, simplify and silence the noise on the outside so that you and your baby can connect, engage and get to know each other instinctually. We found that one of the best ways to support you as a mum was to empower dads by giving them the right training and information so that they can support you too.

We offer ‘The First Touch Program’ for mums in addition to specialised tailored classes for Dads so that they too become the ‘expert’ in caring for your baby. Demand for our ‘First Touch Classes’ for grandparents continue to grow as grandparents continue to take on a greater role in the care of their newest grandchildren.

All classes are facilitated by Dympna Kennedy, a CIMI, who is one of Australia’s most qualified and respected parenting coaches. She’s also the founder of Creating Balance a business that draws on her extensive real-world experience along with the latest academic research to help parents connect better with their children.

She has delivered Keynote Presentations and Workshops for Resourcing Parents (Families NSW), The Early Childhood Association, The Australian National Nanny Conference and has spoken at the National Conference of The Australian Infant Mental Health Association. She has been interviewed on radio, guest appearances on podcasts, has been interviewed for SMH, Daily Telegraph, Essential Baby and has had her articles published in health and educational journals.

Dympna is a member of numerous early childhood and health care organisations, a registered Australian Sports Commission Community Coach, a registered Circle of Security Parent Educator having trained under Dr Kent Hoffman and a registered Circle of Courage Educator having trained with Dr Larry Brendtro. She is an early childhood teacher and received the Family and Children’s Services ‘Award for Excellence’ for her research and work with young children.

What an amazing class. If you want to really get to know your baby you have got to enrol in one of Dympna’s classes. The welcome, the information shared, the knowledge gained and the friendships formed was priceless. This course changed my relationship with my daughter, I feel more confident as a mum and I really connected with the other mums in the group. I’d highly recommend to any mum who wants to connect better with baby and find a new circle of mums outside of your mother’s group.

As a new mum and older mum I found this course to be so helpful and calming and made the most of the one to one contact and special time in my tiny infants life. Instead of worrying about feeds and sleeping etc it made you stop, breathe, relax and most of all take some time to enjoy. Dympna’s style is from a caring with love, type feel, when you meet her you feel like she is that family friend you can ask anything of even though you have just met her. Her anecdotal experiences and stories calm and assure you that you are being the best mum or the good enough mum you, can be. My husband also did the dad classes and he also got so much out of it and enjoyed that very special time early in our sons life. The women I met on the course are now firm friends and 3 years later on we remain so. I’m always keen to attend Dympna’s presentations as I learnt so much and I love her kind respectful ways of respecting the little souls we have been so fortunate to have. My son is very tactile and I believe having that constant early touch helped set the groundwork for how our relationship is.

In my role as Team Leader of a Child, Youth and Family Services I engaged Dympna from Creating Balance on many occasions to facilitate a variety of Baby Massage classes. Dympna has such a wonderful, warm way of connecting with and valuing all those in her class. Our clients would leave the classes empowered with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support and bond with their child.
Dympna’s impressive knowledge base and professional manner had me seeking additional funding from various community grants in order to continue to employ her to provide her fabulous classes.

Wonderful course that allows you to learn useful techniques to bond with your baby but also share experiences with other new parents. Judgement free, informative and empathetic- Dymphna is really a great resource to help guide the way in the first months of parenthood.

Brilliant course which helped my confidence as a new mum. Dympna has a wealth of qualification and experience. She is very calming & has a generous nature. Her approach is wholistic – addressing you and your child. She has a great way to approach things such as using rocking to settle Bub but also give mum a mini workout! The course is at a good pace with time for revision & questions. I learned several new skills & tips each week.

Dympha is extremely knowledgeable in all things baby and her advice has helped me immensely. As a new parent she has given me skills to feel confident that I know what my baby needs from me and how to best interact with her.

We use the baby yoga techniques constantly in our household, the smile on my baby’s face when we interact during this time is one that I treasure.

I highly recommend any new parent attend one of Dympha’s courses, you won’t regret it. She is warm, compassionate and her classes are enjoyable to attend.

What a great course to learn more about your babies cues and things to do to every day to connect with bubs and make them smile.
I loved this class as did my little one! Dympna is amazing. She makes you feel very welcome and has a huge amount of knowledge to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend any of Dympnas courses.

The ‘First Touch Program’ (Infant Massage) is taught within Part 1 of Dympna’s ‘Getting to know your Baby Program’ (there are four parts within the program). Participating in the ‘Getting to know your baby’ program feels like you have already taken a step towards a better understanding between you and your child, thereby forging a healthy relationship. Being my first and only baby so far I wanted to take up the opportunity to bond using methods I may have not previously been aware of and looking at things from a baby’s point of view, which is exactly what Dympna teaches you. Benefits of massage, their needs, how we communicate- all important factors to consider when your aim is to have a happy child. But it also helps you in this potentially crazy and sometimes challenging journey of parenting, where you learn techniques that will benefit you both- child and adult. However just as important, it is also time in your day when you can laugh, share, compare and relax with a group of people who have similar endeavors or experiences. A comfortable, calm environment where you can ask questions freely and Dympna will take the time to listen. She has pearls of wisdom to share- you would be missing out if you did not take this class!

When you walk into Dympna’s class, expect to slow down, calm down, and let your shoulders drop a little. Raising an infant is a whirlwind; Dympna’s method shows you how to connect with your child to exchange love and care. My husband and I both attended Dympna’s classes, and three years on we still apply the techniques we learned. Our daughter is so affectionate and very tactile, I believe this is directly linked to the bonding that occurs with her daily massage. Dympna makes you feel validated, and in turn you will make your child feel validated and loved.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first touch class run by Dympna and so did my son Henry. It was a lovely way to bond with him and I really looked forward to going each week. Dympna is such a warm, welcoming and generous person and is a wealth of knowledge on baby related topics. She really helped me when I was having difficulty settling Henry. Even just talking to her made me feel better about how we were doing. I would definitely recommend this class!
